Meet Doctor Alex Martin
Well, I grew up with two brothers, and we’re all a year apart. I’m the middle kid. And, you know, we were boys. We did a lot of stupid stuff. So each one of us broke our front two teeth out at one point. And, you know, like, I broke my front two teeth out sword fighting with my little brother. Garbage can lids and sticks and the next thing you know, I’m missing half of my front teeth. And my older brother was hit with a baseball bat playing in the schoolyard. Younger brother was riding on a skateboard, fell forward, and knocked his teeth out. So we all did a lot of stupid stuff and broke our teeth.
After going to my dentist growing up, I kind of figured out, hey, you know, they can make you look normal again. Because when it first happens and you’re 10 years old, you’re scared and you’re like, “Oh, God, now I’m gonna look like this the rest of my life.” And then you figure out, hey, these guys can help you out. They can make you look better.
So after I went to college, I was a biology major, and I was thinking, “I don’t really know if I want to get into medicine.” Then I’m thinking more and more, I’m like, “Dentistry, hey. I can help people out the way the guy helped me and my brothers out growing up.” That’s why I am where I am now.
The most rewarding thing is just when patients are done with their treatment and they walk out and they’re just thrilled. You know, they’re happy, they’re giving staff members hugs, they’re just smiling ear to ear all of a sudden. And when they first came in, they were all kind of worried and nervous and scared, and not sure what’s gonna happen, and just tentative about the whole operation. By the time they leave, they’re everybody’s buddies, everybody’s friends, and smiling. It makes you feel good that you can make them whole again like that.
